Summer of 2025, hoping to rent a home near or on beach, well located for day trips. Suggestions?

While I haven’t done it, very good friends rented an apartment for 3 months in Ericeira on the beach and absolutely loved it. Their friends and relatives came over to visit so they were on the road seeing many parts of Portugal with no problems.

Recommendations depend on whether you will be renting a car. With a car, Ericeira would be a nice choice but without a car, not so much. There are many quieter towns that don’t have great public transport connections.
Without a car, I’d stick with something along the train line from Lisbon to Cascais. Carcavelos is a nice smaller beach town, as are Sao Pedro do Estoril, São João do Estoril, Estoril, Monte Estoril or Cascais. Cascais would be the busiest.
If you have a car, a lot of the towns on the Silver Coast would be nice with many beaches to choose from. Sesimbra or Setubal on the other side of the Tejo might be good, if you have a car.
I would avoid the Algarve in the summer.
