Heading to the Algarve after a few nights in Lisbon. Teenagers going also, one is an avid surfer. Where should we stay? We can stay in the Cliff House Marriott for a decent price, but is that the best option? We love small town, being outdoors, hiking, and exploring. Don't care about fancy hotels, necessarily. Thank you for your help!
You may get lucky with the weather, but I wouldn’t head to the Algarve in November - it could be very rainy. The best surf is up the west coast around Peniche, north of Lisbon. Nazare is also popular with surfers.
The surf along the southern Algarve coast is very much for beginners, if there is any at all and is in the area west of Lagos. There is surfing around Carrapateira on the west coast of the Algarve, but this is a small village with few facilities. You would need a car.
The sea here is cold, even in the height of summer.
Where is the Cliff House? There are good restaurants in Portugal, so I would hire an apartment and try the local places rather than staying in a hotel chain.
