I am looking for a moderately priced place to stay in an interesting neighborhood with easy access to points of interest in Porto. What suggestions do people have about neighborhoods or specific places?

Porto is not very big, FYI (compared to Lisbon, anyway). I stayed at a hostel (private room with private en suite bathroom) called Being Porto in the Ribeira area, just up the hill from the river and maybe a ten minute walk from the Sao Bento train station. The room was not big but the place was very welcoming and friendly, and the location was great.

Hi Howell
In May, we stayed at Belmonte Guest House, Rua Belmonte #52. We highly recommend it. Rooms were modern, spacious, the owners very attentive, and they serve a great breakfast. There is no elevator. You are a short walk to the river, many restaurants nearby, and close to many of the Porto sights.

We will be staying at My Story Apartments Santa Catarina, and I understand this is a great location, and not far from São Bento station.
