We are taking a cruise out of Lisbon in October. We plan on arriving to Lisbon several days early to explore. We are interested in beaches and natural things as a priority but open to what you have seen and liked. Thanks in advance for sharing!!!
The Oceanário is Europe’s largest Aquarium, and is wonderful. It can be reached by metro. I also visited and enjoyed the Gulbenkian Museum, the Jerónimos Monastery, the Carmo Convent (an 18th century ruin) and just walking all over the place admiring the views.
Would LIsbon be a good base for a week -- we have never been to Portugal an are thinking of doing a week there in early October before a paris trip
I think Lisbon would be a great base for a week - beautiful and fascinating city. You could also get in a day trip or two.
Would LIsbon be a good base for a week
I have 8 nights booked in Lisbon for March. I’m not worried about running out of things to do.
Lisbon would be a great base for a week, plenty to do. As a note, we are going in mid-October and things are booking up. The Lisbon Marathon is the 8th October, so if you are planning to go during that time, I would book now as I expect it to be a bit tight on accommodations for that weekend.
I would make sure to visit the Belém area of Lisbon. The explorers left from here and theJeronimos Monastery is also in Belém. We spent nine nights in Lisbon and loved it there.
Found this delightful video about pastéis de nata, a famous Portuguese pastry: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=W3hM7nREWJw&pp=ygUpZ3JlYXQgYnJpdGlzaCBiYWtpbmcgc2hvdyBwYXN0ZWlzIGRlIG5hdGE%3D
“The Lisbon Marathon is the 8th October”
Ah, that explains why October 7th was mysteriously booked up, both in in Lisbon, but even more so in Cascais/Sintra.
We were in Belem during the marathon, crowded but manageable.
