What to do in Lisbon before the Airbnb is available?

Hello all,

We (me and three other people) will arrive in Lisbon early September on a Saturday. Our flight lands at 6:30 AM and our Airbnb rental will only be available at 3:00 PM. Not sure we want to spend all that time at the airport. Can anyone suggest an alternative or is there none?

Thanks in advance,

2 alternatives...ask AirBnB host whether they will hold your luggage, or just park your luggage somewhere convenient isn't and enjoy the day.
There are numerous websites, like Nanny Bag, that will hold luggage. They might not be what you consider traditional storage areas, but they work. Bike rental shops, luggage repairs, shoe repair or pubs have all been known to offer secure storage.
Even Google maps will identify them. Decide whether a tourist region or your lodging location would suit best, find it on Google Maps, then type in Luggage Storage. Options will pop up in the relevant proximity.

hey hey michelpion
ask your host if airbnb is available day before, pay that extra night and let them know you're arriving next morning. also about your day of departure, check out is usually 10-11am and you're okay with departing flight time back home.
happened to us once, it was horrible, so tired and jet lagged and had to wait 6 hours to check in. waited with luggage at a table outside a closed bar. learned our lesson about checking flight times. sorry for the dilemma

We strongly agree with the previous poster,
We learned our lesson on our first visit. The Airbnb was kind enough to let us crash at another of their properties, but it was a 3 flight walkup in a noisy neighborhood and had not been cleaned since the prior occupant. We started off the vacation on the wrong foot (but fell in love with Lisbon soon thereafter)
Since then, we have always sprung for the previous day so as to be able to check into our "home" as soon as we arrived. Consider it just a part of the vacation budget.

Another vote for paying for the night before.

You can always get coffee and pastries and go to a museum after you find a place to stow your bags, but wouldn't you rather take a power nap, then get up refreshed and have the rest of the afternoon to explore without fighting sleep?

I started reserving the night before a couple of years ago after one too many miserable mornings, unable to enjoy whatever I was doing because I was so sleepy and just looking at my watch to see if it was 3:00 pm yet.

It's become a necessity, not a luxury. I'll cut costs somewhere else before I spend six or seven hours waiting to check in.
