Trying to avoid flying into Lisbon from Spain. Is there a direct train or comfortable bus/coach that anyone would recommended for my young, college-age daughter to take to travel independently from Madrid or Seville to Lisbon? We've check Rome2Rio which lists buses and trains, but would appreciate first hand insight to understand safety and comfort of options for an inexperienced, young female traveler.
Use Rome2Rio.com to take a look at the options. You'll find that flying really is the most (only) practical option.
For historical reasons there have been very limited land border crossings between Spain and Portugal, the best is probably to fly, unless if you want to take an overnight train from Madrid to Lisboa.
Many outsiders assume that combining the two countries, due to thier perceived closeness, is a no-brainer but actually it's a lot more difficult than it appears from the outside.
Thank you for the update Gail, I believe it wasn't a terribly popular route in the first place.
