Week in Mondao

I am planning a trip to Northern Portugal for September 2018. I am considering renting a house near Moncao for a week with friends. I would appreciate any insights into the area.

Thanks,

Rick.

Mondão (in heading)and Moncão (in question) are different places. I think you need to be sure where the house really is before this goes any further.

You are correct. It is Mancao. I misspelled it in my original post and when I corrected the spelling I neglected to do it in the heading.

well Monção is at least a small town, Mondão is a much vaguer entity! It sits on the river Minho and faces Spain on the other side (some locals on the other side will say it is Galiza not Spain, that's a discussion best avoided!). Has an old town centre worth a stop on a drive, a castle and a bridge over the river (open border). Hilly wine growing (that's where I know the name from.....) area, cooler and damper than the well known south. It is at the junction of two main roads but I think remote could be used to describe it. Given the way that Portuguese addresses can use the town name even when some distance out it would be important to pin point the house and make sure you knew exactly where it was. A car would be essential.
As for airports, the Spanish ones at Santiago de Compostela SCQ and A Coruna LCG are slightly closer than Porto OPO, Lisbon is miles away!
