walking issues

My husband walks w/a cane and we are planning on 5 nights in Lisbon with some day trips. Is Lisbon hilly in most places? Any suggestions on places to go outside Lisbon that are easier for handicapped people

Yes, Lisbon is extremely hilly. Fortunately, there are a few elevators and and lots of trams and buses covering the town pretty well. The biggest problem with trams and buses is that some of them get mobbed with tourists. Lisbon is quite busy anymore - sure was last May when I visited the first time.

There are also lots of "tuk tuks" - little three-wheel taxi carts that shuttle people around town.

Uber also operates in Portugal. That might be useful too, if you don't want to worry about trams being overfilled and not allowing any more passengers on.

I stayed in Baixa, one of the few flat parts of town, near Rossio Square, and that's probably what I'd recommend for you and your husband, too.

I also have mobility issues due to arthritis. When we were in Lisbon last April, we used taxis a lot. They are plentiful and inexpensive. We also used a tuk tuk once, but we didn't go on the trams because they were so crowded.
