I was just wondering if there is anything open in the Algarve Region in December. I'm not a "resort' or "beach" person, so I don't mind that the weather will be cooler but I don't want to plan to visit the area if everything is too quiet or closed. I'm wondering if my time would be better spent touring Lisbon and areas north. Has anyone visited Portugal and the Algarve in December? Anything you would recommend or, perhaps, avoid?
THanks for any thoughts.
Hi! There are regular questions on this topic, and the general consensus is "no, not worth it". It will be very quiet; your time will be better spent north of Lisbon and Evora.
There is plenty open, as many people live there - both Portuguese and French, British and German plus many snowbirds in their motor homes. Some smaller resorts such as Salema and Manta Rota are pretty much hibernating.
The weather is likely to be cold and wet and as the Algarve is all about beaches and golf, December is better spent in Lisbon where there are more indoor activities.
