Visiting Portugal Including the Azores Spring or Fall

Just started researching Portugal as a destination next year. Trying to decide between Spring (April) or Fall (September). My preference would be minimal crowds, good weather (less rain and moderate temperatures). We like to hike and enjoy nature. Wanted to hear people's opinions/experiences on visiting during those times of the year.

I can offer that I was in :Lisbon for. a few days the very end of October. a couple of years back.

It was still very crowded and rained off and on almost every day. Sometimes it drizzled but other times there were downpours.

I can no longer remember if it was still hot.

However, it was very beautiful and it was very interesting.

Can you go in March? I had great weather and minimal crowds in March 2024.

If you are looking at next year, Easter is April 5th. So, you would want to go at least 2 weeks before Easter to avoid the crowds. After Easter is when the crowds start to pick up.

You can never predict the weather, so I always select dates trying to avoid holidays, large events, and school breaks.

We did RS Portugal tour last year mid to late September. Great weather mostly warm no rain.

The Azores normally has better weather in September than April. Crowds will not be a factor in either month. Hiking will be spectacular in both months.
