I was thinking of flying into Porto-then Lisbon-then finding someplace for r&r like Madeira.... Advice

I'm planning a trip to Portugal. flying in to Porto out of Lisbon. We are going the beginning of November. I'm working on an itinerary that will work with no car which includes museums, place to chill, history, some countryside, etc. Any suggestions?

Madeira is a bit of an outlier here, and I can't see that you will get more R&R there.
I'd split my time between Lisbon and Porto with day trips using public transport, and possibly a boat trip up the Douro.
