My husband and I are planning a two month visit to Portugal and Spain in September and October 2024. We will be spending 2 nights in Viseu, arriving by bus from Coimbra. Any suggestions for a quiet place to stay close to the older section of town? We generally prefer smaller guest houses, but are open to any suggestions.

It’s a shame you didn’t have a rental car. If you did I’d suggest Parador Casa Da Insua in Penalva Do Castelo. It’s an 18th century house. It is definitely quite, but 30 minutes from Viseu.

Thanks for your suggestion jaimeelsabio. I’ll definitely check that one out! We will have a car from time to time on this trip, but generally we prefer to take a train or bus and walk wherever possible.
I’ve been looking at the Montebelo Palácio dos Melos, in Viseu, but some reviews complained of noise….
I wonder if anyone has recently stayed at this hotel?
