I've found a terrific AirBnb here, and have heard that Vila Nova de Gaia is a great home base. Does anyone, who is familiar with Porto, know if staying there is inconvenient? We like staying off the beaten track, but I am wondering if the trek to central locations in Porto would take too long from here (i.e. walking or metro). thanks!
I’m here now…good choice
How easy is it to move around the rest of the city from vila nova de gaia? Did you mostly take buses, lyft or walk?!
I am also interested in the logistics of getting from Vila Nova de Gaia to Porto as am considering booking there.
Just visited Porto. Spent a day in Gaia which was wonderful; walked everywhere from Porto to Gaia without a problem. (There will be hills, so be prepared.) I would definitely consider staying in Gaia on the next visit.
Also, we found it very easy and affordable to use Uber in Porto anytime of day or night.
Thanks CSB!
We were in Porto (and area) in June and walked all over or took the metro. Very easy to get to Gaia from Porto. It's a very walkable city, albeit hilly, as previously mentioned. Best to start sightseeing near the "top" (Santo Ildefonso) and walk downhill. Don't miss the fado performance at the Casa Da Guitarra! P.S. We did a lot of walking and we're "older."
Uber is 2 onto 6 euros
Hi SEAasia: What is particular did you like about Casa Da Guitarra? Is it not touristy? thanks! Michele
