Using Viva Viagem card on train to Sintra

I have seen conflicting information on this. Can you use the same Viva Viagem card for the train to Sintra that you used on the subway? I have seen information that says you need a separate one for the train. The latest RS Portugal guide says you can use the same Viva Viagem card for both. Some local sites say you can't.

Unless things have changed since last September, you can use the Viva Viagem on the train between Lisbon and Sintra. I used it last year. However, the Viva Viagem is NOT valid on the Sintra buses. Perhaps that is the confusion.
