Using Uber in Portugal with a SIM card

Hello all,

We will be leaving for Portugal, and a little side trip on the Costa Del Sol this Friday. I've read that UBER works great (and also Bolt) in Portugal. Problem is my Uber account is setup with my current phone number, but we purchased a SIM card for the duration of our trip. I'm assuming I need to change the phone number to the new one on the SIM card, or create a new UBER account when we are there since my current number will not work. Has anyone had this issue here? Is creating a new UBER account when we are over there is the correct way to proceed?

You don’t need to set up a new account. We have used Uber in Portugal and other countries. We were using a data only SIM card. Once set up the app uses WiFi and not your phone number so had no problems.

Thank you for the quick reply, much appreciated.

My SIM card also imply a temporary European phone number. This is why I was inquiring. Because of that i’m not sure I can use the Uber app over there. I’ve been searching the internet but thus far haven’t been able to find a definitive answer. There’s always Taxis. :)
