Hi guys. We are planning a four week trip to Spain and Portugal. We want to include a visit to one of the best university towns, either Salamanca or Coimbra. If you had to choose just one for a two to three night stay, which one would be your preference? Many thanks!
Pamela
Hello Pamela,
I have been to both locations with my college aged daughter and have enjoyed the cities.
My daughter actually spent one summer studying in Salamanca. She LOVED it there!
I spent about 4 days with her there and had a lot of fun. I think we enjoyed the Spainish culture and food more in Salamanca. People watching in Plaza Mayor was so much fun. We had our dinner in one of the little restaurants in the square. Walking around town was fun.
In Coimbra, we were there for 2 days and we felt we saw everything. There was lots of climbing stairs to get to the top where the university is, but is was worth it.
I vote for Salamanca!
Enjoy whatever you decide. It will be a wonderful trip!
Thanks Northwest!
Salamanca, absolutely! Nothing like sitting in the Plaza Mayor watching the lights come on around the city at dusk.
