Uber/Bolt or rent a car in Lagos?

Hi everyone. I'll be flying into and out of Lisbon for 6 days in March and I'd like to spend my time (other than the final night) in the Algarve. I know many say it's best to rent a car when going to the Algarve from Lisbon, but I'd rather not drive anymore than necessary. I'll probably stay in or near Lagos or Carvoeira. It looks like I can take a train to Lagos and there are buses in the area, although I'm not sure how much that might restrict when I can go where.

Is it possible to use Uber and/or Bolt easily in that area? In case it's not, has anyone rented a car in Lagos? What rental agency do you recommend? How is the traffic there? From what I've read, it sounds like parking shouldn't be too difficult in March.

Thank you in advance for any insight you can offer!

I was in the Algarve in Nov. Not Lagos, however. I did use Bolt at Faro Airport. No problem.

Check out zestcarrental.com. I have noticed that car rental prices for this winter have been very inexpensive.

I don't know your dates. I plugged in March 5-11, 2024 for a sample 6 day rental. If you rent the car in Lagos and return it in Lagos, it would cost you about €65. If you rent the car in Lisbon and return it to Lisbon, it would cost you about €45. These prices are for the whole six days, not counting gas or tolls. Check it out for yourself.

From what I was reading on a different travel forum, it looks like I shouldn't have any problem getting an Uber when I want to wander a bit. Does everyone agree? It would be great not to have to worry about a rental car.

I definitely want to go to Carvoeiro and hike the 7 Hanging Valley Trail as well as see Benagil Caves if possible, and I might want to go to Albufeira one day. I think I can catch a bus there and back, right?

KRS, if you have an android phone, go to google maps and search for directions from your starting point, say, Lagos to any one of your destinations or vice versa. On an Android phone, Google maps will provide you with the availability, directions and estimate for a bolt ride, if any.

FYI, it may be easy to get a Bolt or Uber from a metropolitan area and ride out to some distant remote location. But it may be more difficult to request a ride back from that distant remote location because the bolt/uber driver may not want to accept the fare where they have to drive a long way to pick you up. If it were me, I would rent the car for the 5 or 6 days. See my earlier post. Good luck.

Have you checked the websites of Uber and Bolt? I think Uber states where they operate.

I've decided to stay in Lagos. I may still rent a car for just a day or two, but I definitely don't want or need one for the whole trip. It sounds like it will be possible to find a rental agency in Lagos. Thank you for your help!
