Trust UBER for early am. Ride to Porto Airport?

I've never used UBER in Europe. In April, I will need a ride, at about 6am., from my apt on Porto's south end, to the Porto airport. My flight leaves Porto airport at 830am. Would you recommend UBER vs a taxi?
I would schedule in advance. But if something went wrong, I'd be in big trouble!
Love to hear about UBER's reliability, if you've used them in Portugal. Thank you!

I took a taxi from the Porto airport into town and it was great. The taxi driver was really chatty and gave me a whole history of Porto and told me places to go which turned out great. I did not try uber but I don't think you need to as the taxi's are efficient and cheap.

I have an axiom I always remind to myself whenever I am contemplating using Uber:

If you want to save a few bucks, Uber usually will get me where I need to go and won't cost a lot.

If I really need to be someplace, and I need to be sure I'll get there on time - take a taxi.

As flawed and problematic as taxis can be (and they certainly can be, especially in a foreign place you do not know), Uber is always a roll of the dice. Sometimes you roll a good number, sometimes you get...snake-eyes.

I would never, ever rely on an Uber to get me to an early morning flight (especially one that would have dire consequences if I missed). If I were you, I would arrange a taxi (make the arrangement the day before). It may also help to have your hotel make the call to arrange the taxi for you (they will have more long-term skin in that game, you will be gone forever by the next sunset). If you want to risk Uber, I'd suggest: you pad your time by a full hour. If the Uber fails to show up by 30 minutes past your requested pickup time, then call a cab as a Plan B (have a working number for a real cab company ready).

I agree with David.
I'm not anti-UBER, it's often a reasonable choice in the US, but generally speaking, taxis in European cities are the better choice. I travel as a single woman and use taxis frequently.

Licensed taxi....always....it’s their job.

Even with GPS Uber is a crap shoot...

I will just speak to Uber reliability in Portugal, then it’s, obviously, your decision to go with them or with a taxi.

As I live in the Lisbon area without a car, I take Uber fairly regularly. Of course, there have been a few times, when there were problems, but on the whole, I consider them very reliable. There is now the option of scheduling ahead - at least in this area, but not certain about Porto.

You can always start out a few minutes early if you have concerns. But, if you are concerned, it might be worth the few euros to just go with a taxi. Taxis and Uber are both quite inexpensive in Portugal compared with a lot of places.
