trekking poles

Would one be able to purchase trekking poles in the Azores on Sao Miguel?

Not an exact answer, but in case nobody here knows...
Trekking poles are more common in Europe than the US, so I imagine any place the offers outdoor activities will have a shop that sells them.

Any sport-shop should have it. And there is a "Decathlon" also, which seems to be cheaper then other sport-shops.

TSA has actually become a bit more lenient regarding trekking poles. However it may mean purchasing a new pair. I bought a set (in Germany) that breaks down to about 16" and has the flat carbide "nubs", which I cover with rubber caps most of the time. In several trips through TSA I have had no questions. A few of the times though, I had one out using as a walking aid, with the other in my bag.

Decathlon in Ponta Delgada (near the hospital) definitely sells them. I just checked the website and there are lots of options. The cheapest is 5.90 euros/per pole.

I highly recommend using them on many, if not most, of the hiking routes in the Azores.

Pail- TSA is what I was worried about especially since I will be traveling around before I get to the Azores. Thank you for your response.
Carl- thank you for researching Decathlon store for me- your the best!
