Hi,
My husband and I are going to go to Portugal. We have never been there and want to go to Lisbon and then south to beach towns to relax a while. We are planning to go for two weeks. I would love tips on what to see and where to stay in Lisbon and other cities.
What time of year are you going? And are you renting a car. This will make a difference to recommendations. Also are you flying in and out of Lisbon?
A quick search of the forum will give you lots of ideas too
As it is your first time, I would suggest 4-5 nights for Lisbon. From there you will want to see Belem, and maybe daytrip to Sintra. Both these spots can be very crowded depending on time of year that you go.
I assume you mean the Algarve for beaching? Rick's guidebook encourages Salema, which is quite a small town. Lagos has more to see and do. Or you can go to Tavira which is a bit more authentic.
Our first trip we did 4 nights Lisbon, 2 nights Sintra ( picked up the car here). 2 nights Salema and 1 in Tavira. Then we drove up to Evora, ( which we liked very much) and had 3 nights there. We did 2 in Nazare and finished in Obidos with 1 night, drove to the airport and dropped our car.
You could also consider dropping the Algarve and traveling north to Porto.
Thank you for the information you shared. I think I need to get a book so I can be educated and learn more about the places you mentioned. Actually we I think we want to go fewer places than you mentioned. We have had a very rigorous past six months and basically want totake it easy, but see a little of Portugal.
