We are traveling to Portugal for 2 weeks at the end of March with another couple. We fly into Lisbon and plan on spending 4-5 nights exploring the city and hoping to plan a few days trips from Lisbon. Any suggestions besides Sintra?
Does anyone have a suggestion on a town to stay in for a few days before heading to Porto?
Also has anyone stayed on the Douro River that you would recommend?

Evora makes a nice day trip from Lisbon by train (www.bahn.com).
From Lisbon you can take a fast train to Coimbra-B then a slow train to Coimbra and stay in the city. To get to Porto you'll have to take the same train back to Coimbra-B and transfer to Porto.
Good towns to sleep in the Douro Valley are Peso da Regua and Pinhao.
