Travel from Lisbon A/P to city center

We are traveling to Lisbon, Portugal in May. Rick's books for Portugal and Lisbon are not updated to show that the Red Metro line now goes from the airport to the city center. It looks very easy and cheap. Has anyone used it or do you have a better way to get to the city center? There are a lot of comments about taxi drivers honesty and the AeroBus looks like a good option.

If luggage is not a concern, this is a great option. Once you leave the arrivals area (located near the entrance counters for the rental cars), walk outside and immediately the Metro entrance is in front of you...simple as that! The Lisbon Metro is very good, just be sure you know where to connect if you need to. Most everyone speaks English if you need assistance.

FYI, if you have the 7th Edition of Rick Steves' Portugal, published March, 2013, it has the airport-metro info on p. 38 (Arrival in Lisbon).

Thank you both for the reply & info. Please note for those who are using the March 2013 guide book, the red line now goes all the way to Sebastiao.

BEWARE of pickpockets on the Lisbon subway. My experience was that they had their hand in my sister's purse, and when I told her to be careful, the hand disappeared immediately. Just a few minutes later, the damned hand was back in her purse. (My sister is a slow learner..jk).

I know they can be everywhere, but the subways are one of the best spots for them to take advantage of the tourists...crowded, tired, disoriented, etc. I've been to Barcelona and other places where they are notorious for pick pocket thieves, but Lisbon is right up there...on the subways at least.

Does anyone know if the Lisboa Card, if purchased at the airport TI, good for bus or metro travel into the city center?

Thanks Carl for your comment about luggage. While we travel light I had a flash back about our other travels with luggage on the metro and decided to take the Eurobus. This is the way to go if your hotel is near any of the stops they make. You have a place to put your luggage and it is fast and comfortable.
