Transportation from Lisbon Airport to hotel

Has anyone used the 100 rumos Shuttle service from Lisbon airport to a hotel in Lisbon? I know it's a shared shuttle, and it's a good price (8 euros per person). I'm going a couple days before my friend, so I'll be alone arriving.

I keep reading warnings about the taxis and how the drivers try and cheat you on the appropriate rate. I know the Rick Steves book also recommends Uber, which we could use too. Saw mostly good reviews on this shuttle service and wanted to see if anyone has used it.

I'd prefer avoiding the airport bus or metro just because we will be arriving from the US and will be tired and hungry and just want something convenient.

Thanks.

Travelfan, I flew into Lisbon in May, and was headed for Sintra first. There was a very helpful fellow staffing the tourist information counter very near where I emerged from immigration and customs. He pointed to a door near the counter, said go there and take the Metro three stops, then go upstairs to a railroad station at the same location, get a ticket and catch the next train to Sintra. That was quick, cheap and a method I had not read about in any of my pre-trip planning, including RS books. Worked great. Of course I was able to handle my own carry-on baggage in doing this. My point is, regardless of your initial plan, stop at the tourist information counter with the name and address of your hotel, and ask them what is the best, quickest or cheapest way to go there. They may just confirm your plan, or offer a better alternative. Also, you can e-mail your hotel and just ask them.

I don't know that shuffle but looking at their website € 8 for 1-2 pax looks like a good deal. You wouldn't get better from any taxi probably, unless the hotel is close to the airport.

Some Lisbon taxis try sometimes to get a bit of advantage from the tourists who don't know the routes . You shouldn't however worry too much about that. It's not all drivers at all, only a few dirty ones. Some have already been in courts for doing that so maybe they learned some lessons hopefully.

If you let me know which hotel you are going to I may be able to estimate how much you should be paying on a taxi if no one is cheating on you. This would give you some references and you could tell the driver "hey look, I've been here several times before and I know how much I'm supposed to pay so could you let me know how much are you estimating to charge me?". This way you are sending him some strong signals that he shouldn't even try to cheat on you. And if he says a higher price just dump him. Another tip may be "Last times I've been here I was charged around € X. Can you match it or even beat it?"

Anyway, as a general rule, from Lisbon Airport to any hotel in Lisbon center you shouldn't pay more than € 10 to € 18 (already pushing it), depending on the hotel's location and road traffic.

I hope this helps you.
