We land in Lisbon on Tuesday morning. What is best way to get to our hotel HF Fenix Urban? is public transport easy? which metro should we be using?
Rick's Portugal guidebook suggests a taxi as first choice, since it typically only costs about €10 from Lisbon airport to the city center. Your hotel's web site also discusses alternatives.
I just got back from Portugal and took the metro from Lisbon airport to my hotel. It was extremely easy. The airport metro stop is right by the exit from the arrivals hall - go out, turn right, and it's about 50 feet away - the easiest airport-to-metro connection I've made anywhere. The airport metro stop is at the end of the Red Line so it's impossible to go in the wrong direction from the airport. Warning, Lisbon is a very hilly city, so if you have a lot of luggage and have to hike from the metro station to your hotel, it can be an uphill slog depending on where your hotel is relative to the metro station. I don't know where your hotel is so you'd have to figure that one out yourself.
"Warning, Lisbon is a very hilly city"
Yes it is! I was there in 2002, but this is one of my most vivid memories. Just as is said of San Francisco, "if you get tired of walking around Lisbon, you can always lean against it." The Baixa and Belem are flat; the Bairo Alto and Alfama most definitely are not.
