Transfer in Amsterdam

We have a direct flight from Tampa to Amsterdam with a three hour layover before flying on to Lisbon. We will not check bags. Will we have to go through security again in Amsterdam?

Last fall we flew Tampa to Heathrow to Paris, and didn’t realize we would have to get our liquids out and transfer to a single ziplock bag at Heathrow before our Air France flight. We aren’t sure if it was because of Brexit or if it’s always been that way. Don’t want to repeat that mistake!

Yes. This will be your "first touch down in Europe" - so you will go thru immigration and security - your passport will get stamped.

You will go through Immigration, but no security check as long as you stay airside and use "Connecting Flights" immigration.

Heathrow has long had a security check for all arriving passengers doing a connection (much like in the US), not a thing in the Schengen area.

We know we will have security in Amsterdam but wondered about having to go through security a second time in Amsterdam before boarding our flight to Lisbon.

No, you won’t go thru security in Amsterdam once, let alone twice. You will however need to go thru passport control, because Schiphol Amsterdam Airport is your entry point into the Schengen Zone. Three hours is plenty of time to do this.
