We are attending a wedding in Portugal and need to find transfers from Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport to Douro Royal Valley Hotel & Spa and then back to Porto 2 days later. It is about an hour and a half drive. I have been quoted $300 for a private car each way. Does anyone have recommendations for a safe, reliable and more affordable option? TIA
I am always so astounded when wedding parties do not provide this assistance to guests. Have you written the hotel?
If there is a wedding website of some sort, then you might be able to pool with other guests to share the cost.
Google is showing some public transport options, but it looks cumbersome and at least double the time. I would rent a car, which is likely roughly the same as paying the driver, and at least you could use the car if there is any downtime or after the wedding.
I just entered a one-way transfer into Welcome Pickups (https://welcomepickups.com) and got a price of 92 euros. Round trip that'll come to a little over $200.
I use Welcome Pickups frequently and have found them to be reliable.
I honestly find these destination weddings to be quite an imposition on guests. Neither the wedding party nor the hotel have been any help as far as getting there. Driving in a foreign country makes me a little nervous. I’m sure the highways would be fine but the smaller backroads might be a little tricky, but I will give it some serious consideration. I will also look into the Welcome Pickups. Thank you both.
