My husband and I will be flying into Faro, Portugal on a Friday, arriving about 17:00. What is the best way to get to Lagos? Should we take a private taxi that evening? Or, stay the night in Faro and then take a train the next day? What have been the experiences of some of you? "Best" is a subjective term.... The taxi is more expensive, but probably a smoother connection. The train is cheaper but if we can't travel Friday night, and have to spend the night in Faro is that a good thing or not?
Thank you for any ideas or thoughts on this.
I always hire a car for the Algarve, as public transport is patchy. Driving isn’t difficult and car hire is good value compared to most of Europe. It’s an hour on the toll road, two hours on the non toll road.
Check cp.pt for train times. It takes about 2 hours to Lagos plus you would have to get a bus or taxi from the airport to the train station.
Most recommend Yellowfish as a transfer company. I haven’t used them as I always have a car, but there are always plenty of them at the airport with their name boards out meeting flights.
I would try to get to Lagos Friday evening, as you should arrive early enough, rather than booking a one night stay and then taking half of Saturday to get to Lagos. Faro old town is ok for a couple of hours, but it’s not worth a longer stay.
