Trains within Portugal

Is it necessary to purchase train tickets ahead of time when we want to go from 1)Oporto to Lisboa and return, 2) from Lisboa ( local train?) to Sintra, and from 3) Sintra to Oporto? All these trips on separate days and the Cp.pt website does go out to July yet. It seems to me that when I visited Portugal the last time we just went to Rossio station
to the kiosk and purchased the tickets and got on the train, but that was before Covid and perhaps things have changed. Can anyone give us any insight into purchasing these tickets? I do not wanna go through a third-party.
Also does anyone know if there’s such thing as a Senior pass on the trains ? Thank you.

It is not necessary to purchase ahead but you save money on the Lisboa to Porto trip. And, July will be very busy so you might not get on the train you want. There are more than one a day, though, so you could take your chances. There is no direct train from Sintra to Porto. You cannot purchase ahead on the commuter trains - to Sintra. For the local trains, buses and metro, you will need a Navagante Occasional card, easily purchase by machine or booth at metro stations.

There is no senior pass. The long distance trains have a senior rate but it’s not usually any cheaper than the ones purchased up to two weeks ahead.
The train website is cp.pt
