Train Tickets in Portugal

I’m trying to buy train tickets on the official website/app and where it asks for nationality, country of residence, etc. it does not give the option of the United States. I’m not sure what to do next. I would very much appreciate any suggestions about how to proceed or if there are other options. Thank you!

Thanks Carrie, it wasn’t there. We arrived in Porto yesterday afternoon so I’ll just go to a train station.

I am having the same problem. I’ve gone over the drop down menu of options, including E for Estados Unidos and it’s not listed. I can’t use the app without providing my details so I don’t know what to do. I tried sending a message through the app, tried posing questions differently and it’s not responding. I ended up just deleting my account. I need to buy train tickets from Lisbon to Porto.

sbd93059, I’m looking at the website now and it appears as if Estados Unidos da America has disappeared from the dropdown menu. The country field does not have an * next to it, so it is not a mandatory field. You should be able to purchase your tickets by skipping the country. You also do not need to enter a tax ID.

Good luck!!

I bought my tickets to our next destination at the train station. Trying to use the app is just impossible.

I finally figured out that I could buy tickets without an account, so it worked. I wasted a few hours getting frustrated, but I got there in the end. Thanks for your replies!

Okay, I deleted the train app and reinstalled it (apparently it was still on the cloud). I tried to buy tickets as a guest, not logging in to anything. I put in the locations and date I want to travel and it gave me a list of trains that day. So far so good. I chose the one I wanted and got a message that said, “This trip is not available for purchase.” I began checking the other trains that day and received the same message for each. I guess we are going back to the train station to buy our tickets. At least it’s close to where we are staying.

This won’t help you now, but for others who may be reading this. I always download the country train app prior to my trip and make a test purchase. That way I can make sure I know how to use the app and check that my credit card works with it ahead of time.

When I purchased my tickets (from home) the website rejected my first payment of my travel Visa card. I tried doing it all over again and used PayPal, and it worked. Go figure. I agree, try using the apps at home first if you can.

I would just use Trainline.

Luckily like you said, you are close to the station !
