I am going to Portugal for all of July and I have been trying to book a train from Porto (Campanhã) to Lisbon (Santa Apolonia) for July 10. I have been waiting for months to book the train early and up until July 7, I could reserve the train in advance. For some reason I am unable to book a train after that date, yet it shows that the dates are available. Anybody have any advice or know what is happening? Thanks!
It’s too early to book for July. The system will only allow up to 30 ahead of your trip. The good news is - there won’t be a problem with you waiting until about a month out. The cheaper tickets will still be available.
I can’t imagine why it is allowing dates as far out as 7 July.
Ok perfect thanks!
We took the Porto to Lisbon train and it is surprisingly fast. It is not a new train, but clean and comfortable.
I have follow-on questions regarding train travel from Oporto to Lisbon.
1) can someone provide a web page in English for schedule - didn't see an icon to switch language
2) are reserved seats required? or just a smart idea?
thank you
On the cp.pt website, there is a place at the top right corner where you can switch from PT to EN.

You'll be assigned seats. When I booked IC trains a couple of weeks ago at the last minute, seats were just assigned to me. I don't remember whether I had an option to choose seats or not.
Note that there are AP and IC trains. The AP are a little faster, cost a little more, and (I presume) newer and nicer than the IC trains. I didn't ride any AP trains, only the IC and regional trains. The IC trains were OK, not as nice as the regional trains I was on, actually, though you likely wouldn't want slow regional trains between Porto and Lisbon.
