Train Porto to Aveiro

Is it necessary to buy this train ticket in advance? I will be in Porto 3 1/2 days, April 21-24 and would rather wait to book for the nicest weather day?

If it weren’t the week after Easter, I would say no. But, Portugal has an increase in tourists the week before and after Easter- especially the Spanish. You might want to check out cp.pt for the train times. If there are a number of trains and time isn’t a huge factor, you might be ok with waiting. You could likely wait until a day or two ahead so the weather forecast would be pretty accurate.

I'm glad you posted this. Although I was able to order my other train and bus tickets, I was unable to purchase a ticket from Setubal to Faro on April 12. Does that even make sense?

There are different types of trains in Portugal, some allow for online ticket purchase some don't.

Any Urbano (U) train does not allow for online ticket purchase.

Between Porto and Aveiro you can use the U, R, IC, AP trains.

Between Setúbal and Faro you have to take the U train to Pinhal Novo and transfer to either the IC or AC train to Faro, you'll have to purchase the U train ticket in person.

aulopone, thank you for the info!

OP, when I visited Aveiro, I took a Bolt out to Costa Nova to look at the striped houses. It was touristy, but super cute!
