Train or car from Lisbon to Porto with stop in Obidos

We will be traveling in May. Debating whether to get car leaving Lisbon, knowing we will not be driving in Porto, or wait until we leave Porto and take the train from Lisbon. We want to stop in Obidos but don't want to have to schlep our luggage around there. Is there anywhere to store luggage in Obidos? How cumbersome/time consuming is it to get from Obidos to Porto by train? Our Porto hotel does not offer free parking; how expensive will parking be? And lastly, any idea of surcharge to rent a car in Porto but return it in Lisbon? Thank you.

The train is our favorite mode of travel in Portugal however for some locations a car is better.

While it's possible to go Lisbon, Óbidos, Porto by train, it's cumbersome requiring several transfers, rent the car.

Sometimes we have rented a car for a day or two for the locations that are difficult to access by public transit.
We usually rent from the airport location because it's easier to access than downtown and has a larger selection of vehicles.

We stayed at the NH Porto Jardim in September and parking was 15€ a night.

You can do dummy car rental bookings, Lisbon-Lisbon and Lisbon-Porto, on some rental company websites to see what the drop off charge will be. I’m sure it varies by company, but you will at least have an idea.

Honestly, you don’t want to stay in Obidos. We did that . It is ok as a base. Very touristy. We hunkered down in our Pousada to escape the tourist crowds when we returned each day.
We loved Alcobaça, Evora, and Coimbra. We loved Portugal just not staying in Obidos.

Suki, I don’t believe the OP said they were staying overnight in Obidos. They need a place to store luggage if they do not drive.

Linda, thanks. I now see that they just want to store luggage in Obidos. Googling reveals the answer to finding a storage place.
