Hello- we will be in Portugal for 12 nights- splitting our time between Lisbon and Portugal. I am trying to locate a good guide to public transportation so I know best way to buy tickets, do you buy in advance, children pricing, etc. IF anyone has a good article/video, I would appreciate sending it
What I have found:
1. Our daughter is 6 years old- she gets 1/2 price ticket most places, but we have to actually buy a ticket.
2. for the AP train between Porto and Lisbon you buy in advance 60 days out - they validate on the train. I do see that a ticket the the campanha station gives you a tickjet to the sao benito.
3. For our Porto to Braga day trip - we can ride the urban train - we buy when we are ready to get on. For the return trip - if we buy at the same time, do we choose a specific train, or is the ticket good for any train that day? if not, I guess it makes sense to wait to buy until we are on our way back to Porto.
4. Porto and Lisbon metro/bus/trams - not sure how much we will use these- but likely buy as we need - any sort of card that we can load? If so, do we need one for each of us, or can we use one for all three of us? Is there one pass that works in both cities, or do each have their own independent system?
5. Day trips from Lisbon to Sintra, Cascais, +/- Belem - are they all part of the main Lisbon system?
How do you buy tickets to them? any reason to buy in advance vs day of? (do you buy for a dedicated train or just the route)
thanks all!
