I've been looking into trains from Lisbon Rossio to Sintra for a journey October 27. The train I'd like to take is the No 18825 that departs Lisbon 9:01 and arrives Sintra 9:38. When I checked the timetable the destination is Portela de Sintra. In looking at a map this isn't the same place as the "Sintra" station (to the west) which is where I thought the destination was. Should I be looking at the "suburban train" (No 18671 I think) that departs Sintra Rossio at 8:31 and arrives at 9:00? Is the No 18671 in high demand such that I should pre-book a ticket?
You need to select Sintra not Portela De Sintra as your destination.
Portela de Sintra is the stop before Sintra. Those trains don't sell out. The train arrives at 9:41
You will buy your ticket from a kiosk upstairs.
There might be a line, or you might have trouble with the machine, so give yourself extra time.
When I was there last year there was a young employee who helped people at the machines which helped a lot.
If you are going to the castle up at the top of the hill (which is very cool!) you'll catch the bus just outside the station. As I recall we just paid the driver. It was crowded and I had to stand. Luckily I had a good handhold -- it was an E-ticket thrill ride speeding up the hill!
I really enjoyed Lisbon and Sintra. I hope that you do too!
Jon,
You can use the “zapping “ card to go to Sintra, just make sure it has enough money loaded. Trains are very frequent, at least twice an hour, just make sure to take a direct one, ending in Sintra. I took 8:11 train 2 days ago, you can look up the schedule on CP website, or better download their app
