My family, two adults, two 12 year olds, are planing a trip to Albufeiro but would like to spend a few days in Rome at the beginning of the trip. Is there a train connection between Rome and Faro? Would this train trip be speedy or a very slow train with lots of stops?

At least a day and a half with a half dozen or so changes and myriad stops.
TAP would do it with one change in Lisbon and about five or six hours. .
The costs would probably be real close.

This is a train journey of about forty some hours with many changes and next to no respite!
