Train from Lisbon to Porto

Hello,
My husband and I will be heading to Portugal in a few weeks. I was looking for help on which train stations and trains to take from Lisbon to Porto. Should we buy tickets in advance? Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thank you,
Kristine

There's some good information on Seat 61

Tickets are cheaper if purchased in advance.
The stations we inputted for our ticket were Santa Apolonia (Lisbon) to São Bento (Porto). The fast train ends at Porto Campanhã but if you input São Bento, the transfer will be free. I really like that last leg of the journey from Campanhã to São Bento since it goes over the river and the views are fantastic. Also, the São Bento station has amazing tilework.

I totally agree with boarding at Santa Apolonia instead of Oriente. Oriente is quite large on multiple floors. Frequently (it seems to me), the elevators aren’t working so I’ve ended up lugging my suitcase up or down stairs. Santa Apolónia is all on the ground floor and very easy to navigate.

And, yes, if you can purchase tickets ahead of time, they are cheaper. But, trains in Portugal are very inexpensive if you can’t.
