Hello,
My husband and I will be heading to Portugal in a few weeks. I was looking for help on which train stations and trains to take from Lisbon to Porto. Should we buy tickets in advance? Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thank you,
Kristine
It appears Lisbon (Lisboa) has six train stations. Lisboa – Oriente is the station you want to take the train from to Porto (3h): https://www.cp.pt/passageiros/en.
You certainly can take the train to Porto from Oriente, the Alfa Pendulars (fast trains) stop there. But, if you are staying in central Lisbon it would be a lot easier board the train at Santa Apolonia where they originate.

Thank you, I think that is the information that I needed.
I totally agree with boarding at Santa Apolonia instead of Oriente. Oriente is quite large on multiple floors. Frequently (it seems to me), the elevators aren’t working so I’ve ended up lugging my suitcase up or down stairs. Santa Apolónia is all on the ground floor and very easy to navigate.
And, yes, if you can purchase tickets ahead of time, they are cheaper. But, trains in Portugal are very inexpensive if you can’t.
Some great added helpful information.
Thank you very much!
