Which is the best train to take from Lisbon to Porto?
Thanks,
Estella
The one that suits your travel plans. You can see the options at www.cp.pt
The AP trains are a bit faster. About 3.5 hours from Rossio station. If you are sure of departure time try to book online in advance for a Promo fare discount at https://www.cp.pt/passageiros/pt
The best train station in Lisbon for tourists is Lisbon Santa Apolonia because it's the terminus for most of the AP trains from Lisbon to Porto.
This allows you extra time to find the correct platform, correct train, train car , seat.
The second option is Lisbon Oriente station but you'll have to be quick to find the correct platform and train travelling in the desired direction, it's an on route station, the train will stop for a couple of minutes.
The AP train is the fastest and first class is more comfortable with wider seats.
You can purchase tickets up to a maximum of 60 days before departure ( usually discounted), you can also buy tickets in person at any CP station .
Use only cp.pt.
I'd like to add a follow-up question to this thread. When traveling via train from Lisbon to Porto, can you get off in Coimbra for a few hours then get back on the train the same day. I did not see anything about that on the CP website. Does anyone know the answer?

The InterCity trains have reserved seats, no off and on.
You can buy tickets from Lisbon to Coimbra and separate tickets from Coimbra to Porto.
Off and on is allowed on commuter trains ( ex: Lisbon to Cascais, or Lisbon to Sintra) , they don't have reserved seats but you must have the appropriate ticket or you'll have to pay/ buy separate tickets for each trip.
