Towns to visit/overnight between a stay in Lisbon and Douro Valley

Good day all,
I am a solo traveler heading to Portugal this summer for 2 weeks. I will be in Lisbon Aug 2nd-9th (during that time will be doing day trips to Evora, Obidos and Sintra), the Douro Valley the 11th-13th, Porto the 13th - 14th. I fly home on the 15th and will be staying close to the airport the night of the 14th.

I am hoping for some recommendations of towns to visit/stay for the 2 nights after I leave Lisbon. Coimbra? Fatima? Tomar? I definitely want to see Batalha, would that be a day-trip option if I stayed in Coimbra? I won't have a car, so stays that are accessible by train or bus are needed. I love small towns, and will likely be craving that after a week in Lisbon!

Thank you for any assistance!

We stayed overnight in the Pousada in Evora, a special place to visit.

Without a car, Coimbra is likely the easiest- or Aveiro. Both are on the train line between Lisbon and Porto.

Batalha will be more difficult. You might check on a private driver from Coimbra but I’m guessing it will be fairly expensive.

If you like small medieval towns, you will love Tomar. We stayed at the Thomar Boutique Hotel.
