We will be on the island of Sao Miguel at the end of June just before heading back to the states. Any suggestions for a town or a part of the island as a good base location? We'd like to be able to get to things easily, maybe even walking, small towns are more interesting than being out in the middle of the country. An ocean view would be a bonus. Oh yes, which side is likely to be warmer or will it matter?

The elevation of where you will stay makes the most difference of weather and temperature, not so much which side of the island. I recommend Ponta Delgada as a base. I love being there on every visit.
June should be gorgeous with fantastic weather. Hope you have a wonderful trip.
