Town between Porto and Lisbon for 2 nights

Hello,

We arrive in Porto late September and spend 2 nights there and then have 2 open nights before heading to Lisbon for 5 nights. Trying to figure out where to go. Obidos? Coimbra?

Would prefer to stay in one place for those nights and do a day trip if needed rather than relocate to another hotel/Airbnb.

Thank you for any recommendations!

I suggest Tomar as a consideration. Without a car, I did and would suggest 3 nights in Porto and one in Tomar. With a car and 2 nights in Tomar, you could do easy day trips to places such as Obidos, Fatima, Alcobaca, Batalha.

While we enjoyed a 90-minute early morning visit to Obidos, there’s much more to see and do in the university town of Coimbra.

Thanks all. We have decided to spend 2 nights in Coimbra.

We're planning 2 nights in Coimbra, 1 in Tomar and another night in Obidos before heading for Evora.
Any thought on that allocation?

Train or car?

With a car, I'd opt for Tomar - easy to drive in and out and while there's not much to see in Tomar, it's a good base for seeing a coastal town (i regretted choosing Nazare - too touristy), Obidos, Alcobaça and Batalha.

By train, Coimbra is excellent for a full day. Arrive evening and depart morning - unless you want to visit the Roman ruins nearby. Then you need another half day. You should take the train from Porto-Campanha to Coimbra-B. Both stations are somewhat removed from the center, so take uber or taxi to your hotel and back. Transferring to the more central train stations just wastes a lot of time. The RS guidebook has a very good walking tour

Hi! I would spend less time in Lisbon. I am here right now and just got here after spending 2 nights in Porto. Loved porto and 2 days is plenty. I have 3 days/nights in Lisbon and that feels like plenty (honestly, in comparison to Porto, I like Porto better)
