We are not generally tour takers. But we are looking a Viator tour to Obidos, Alcobaca, Nazare, Batalha, and Fatima. In that order. There are tours that cost a little more but do not cover all of these towns. We personally would leave out Nazare, but the other Viator tours that do leave from Lisbon, don't cover all the other cities that we really want to see. Has anyone done this tour on Viator?
No, we went to all those places on our own. Our favorites among your list were Nazaré and Alcobaça. We stayed in Obidos for several nights but it is only good for an hour or two, no more. Is this one Viator tour that includes all of these places? Or a series of tours? If you don’thave much time or a rental car, it would be better to take this tour( assuming it includes all the places) than to miss them. We skipped Fatima as it was the big annual feast day and reported to be mobbed.
We do not rent cars in Europe. And this is one tour that will cover all places and it is about an 11 hour day. We will be staying in Lisbon for a while but will be meeting our son and grandson who have not been to Lisbon before and we will be tour guides for them. This is a tour we would do before they arrive. We will not be in any of these places very long, but they were things we wanted to see last time we were in Lisbon and didn't have time. I was really hoping for someone who had taken this tour and could tell us if it is a good one or not. My sister has taken Viator tours before and was very pleased. But they have usually taken the small 8 person tours.
There is no such thing as a "Viator tour". Viator just sells tours run by other companies. Therefore, someone's positive experience with a tour purchased through Viator doesn't really tell you anything about the tour you are contemplating unless they took exactly the same tour run by the same operator.
Which I unfortunately have not. However, I took one of the multi-destination tours out of Lisbon way back when, and it was fine for the purpose. I believe we only went to three places, two of which were Nazare and Batalha. The 5-destination tour is probably several hours longer and will give you a quick look at a lot of towns. They are mostly quite small, so for the car-less, a tour like this can be the most practical approach. It allows you to avoid spending 5 hours in a tiny town, waiting on a bus, when 1-1/2 hours would have been sufficient.
It would be very difficult to visit all those places in one day, especially if you are starting in Lisbon. You will only get a very quick look at them all. I would encourage you to research the different towns to narrow it down, or take two different tours.
Your Friend in Lisbon does tours to some of these places. They are very good with their walking tours of Lisbon so I’m thinking the out of town tours would be good also.
