Tomar for 3 Nights or Add Evora?

I’m planning a nine-night trip to Portugal in October with a friend. We’ll have a rental car and are trying to decide how to spend the middle three nights.

We have three nights booked in Colares and plan to explore Sintra, Setúbal, Sesimbra and the surrounding area. We’ll spend our last three nights in Lisbon. Batalha is a must for my friend.

Our original plan was to spend the middle three nights around Tomar and explore Central Portugal. Would you stay there all three nights, and what else would you recommend seeing in the area? Or would you spend one night in Tomar and two nights in Évora before Lisbon? Is that trying to do too much?

We’d rather enjoy the places we visit than try to check off every major tourist attraction. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

When we stayed in Tomar we used one day to drive to Batalha Monastery and Fátima. On another day we went to Armoural Castle. On our final day we visited the Convent of Christ and walked around town.

What you do is a personal preference.

Personally I enjoyed Evora much more than Tomar. We had planned to spend 2 nights in Evora and added a 3rd to explore the area.
