Hi all,
booking a 10-12 day trip for late April, early May. doing at least 5 days in Portugal, but wanted to consider Mallorca, or Menorca prior to heading back to the US. Goal is some beach time surrounding by beautiful waters.
So far, my flight search from Lisbon has shown fairly long flights considering the time I have there. Also have to consider getting back to the US as well.
Are there any other alternatives in Spain that you would recommend as opposed to the islands?

If you just want some beach time by beautiful waters there are plenty of options in Portugal.
Check historic annual air and water temperatures before choosing a destination, especially in April. Have you considered the Canaries or Madeira? Latter is rock with virtually no beaches, but they are both interesting as well as touristy.
I do not go to Europe for beach time. Spain esp. eastern Spain is not well connected to Portugal.
Late April/early May is a month too early for beach time in the Balearic islands, or anywhere else on the Iberian peninsula really. You can get lucky and get warm days, but it's just not yet swimsuit weather usually.
Also, there are better beaches in and near the US!
With 10-12 days in Portugal you can definitely enjoy coastal areas; Cascais and Ericeira are close to Lisbon and worth exploring. It's probably easier.
Thank you all for the feedback and input. Consensus seems to be to stay in Portugal and find a coastal area there.
