The Azores - Terceira

A friend and I will be visiting Terceira in a few weeks. We've got our flights and hotel but are curious about any must sees and things we should know before visiting.

Hi Denise,

I was in Terceira in June, my second time there. Some apps to download to your smartphone:

VisitAzores -Online guidebook.
Walk me Azores -Hikes and walks with great descriptions.
SpotAzores -Webcams around the islands
Google Translate -Download Portuguese before using!
Google Maps -Can be used offline seamlessly. Download a map of of Terceira on WiFi before you leave on your trip.

Grab a tourist guide and map at the airport. Get one for the entire island and one of just Angra do Heroismo. Your hotel probably has them too. Lots of old beautiful buildings and a beautiful public garden in Angra to visit.

Some places to visit: Furnas do Enxore is always open, Algar do Carvao is nearby and is probably only open in the afternoon, Praia da Vitoria is a walk-able town, and go up to the overlook with the statue of the nun, Serra do Cume is a beautiful overlook as well as the one above the airport. There is a boat tour to the Ileus das Cabras, and don't miss Monte Brasil in Angra.

Some restaurants: at the harbour in Sao Mateus go to Beira Mar for incredible seafood, Q.B. just outside of Angra is a great resturant for pizzas and desserts, Petikasky, a 10 minute walk from downtown Angra is a nice cafe and restaurant for lunches, Quinta dos Acores overlooking Angra is a favorite of my family, and Cais de Angra is a great spot for dinner!

The airport has a cafe and restaurant, and there is free WiFi in parts of Angra. Take pictures of your rental car before you leave the airport if there is ANY noticeable damage! Most everyone in the Azores can speak English and are very helpful.

If you have any specific questions or concerns, you can send me a PM. If not, have a great trip! And next time make sure you take a week to visit Sao Miguel!!!!!

Take care,
Carl
