Tauck Douro River Cruise August 30 to Sept 10

Booked on this tour.

Does anyone have any advice for any free time we may have.

Also, is anyone else out there booked on the same cruise?

Safe travels all.

I assume you mean the cruise that includes Lisbon and Madrid. We're on it later this fall. Arriving 1 day early. Hoping to tour the Tile Museum, ride Tram 28 and see the view from the St George castle. The next day before the welcome reception we plan to take the train to Sintra. Not sure for the afternoon of Day 2.

In Madrid we're staying 2 days longer to see more of the museum's and maybe a side trip to Toledo.

On the river I'm not sure there's much free time. You'd be better to ask your question on the Tauck forum where it's more likely to be people with actual experience with the tour.

I'd recommend watching Ricks videos of Portugal and Spain. For guidebooks, the Snapshot Lisbon and Snapshot Madrid are more useful for this tour than the full country guides.

This is on our list. There is good discussion on this trip on both the Tauck Website forums and the Tauck Travelers facebook page. You'll get many more responses there - seems these Rick Steves forums don't usually have many Tauck travelers.

Hangman, which category did you post it in? Sometimes a post won't show up in the full list of active discussions so it isn't seen. That's happened to me a couple of times.

I noticed you said 30 Aug but I only see a 31 Aug start date. That might have confused some. I see posts frequently of people asking if someone is on their tour but they seldom get a yes. The vast majority of Tauck guests either don't use the forum at all or only in read mode. It's nice when it happens but in 8 tours I've only ever met someone on line before hand once before a tour. I did connect with someone for our upcoming cruise so I guess I can add that to the list.

On this cruise I get the feeling that during the river portion the down time may be limited to chilling on the ship. Unlike other river cruises we've taken, they can only sail during the day time so you're either off on one of the planned excursions or on board.

Happy cruising.
