TAP tip

FYI,
I am in the process of booking my trip to Portugal in April. We are flying into Lisbon and back from Porto. Counter-intuitively, by buying the flights separately, I save $100 for each of us.

Weird?

Thank you. I will be using TAP to fly from Porto to Barcelona in May. I will see if I can save some $$ by using your suggestion!

The only issue with that is that if you have to cancel or reschedule for some reason you have to pay the change fee on both sets of tickets.

btw we flew Boston -> Lisbon and Porto -> Lisbon -> Boston a few years ago when we went on the RS Portugal trip. TAP was surprisingly nice.

Just a vivid reminder that airfares are not logical. Always consider various permutations (airports, one-way, round-trip and open jaw tickets).

EDIT: Years ago, I purchased a round-trip trip ticket requiring only the use of the first portion only. The price was cheaper than the one-way ticket. Recently, it was significantly cheaper to fly into an alternate airport, that was fully acceptable, and then secured flights within Europe.

Thanks for the good words about TAP, Carol. I'm flying TAP from Amsterdam to Lisbon this summer. I feel much more comfortable about that now.

I would just take the train or a bus if all you are doing is going from Lisbon to Porto and back. Cheap, easy, and scenic. Time wise, when you consider your time going to and from airports, getting there early, deplaning, etc. you have used more time than the bus or train takes.

Ms Jo,
I was not clear. I am flying into Lisbon from Newark and back to Newark from Porto. We are spending a week in Lisbon and taking the train to Porto for 4 nights
