Heading to Lisbon in early September and then either to the ocean around the Alentejo or Algarve. Plan to do some hiking but it occurred to me the water may be too cold for swimming. I read water temperatures around Lagos are about 72 degrees then. Seems a bit nippy! Do people swim in September?

I’ve always been told September and October are the best months for sea swimming in Portugal. With summer ending, there has been more time for the water to warm and the temperatures, especially in September, are still quite warm. Since the sea is the Atlantic, it never gets really warm.
