We are visiting the town of Tomar and the Convent of Christ! Besides being a home base for the Knights Templar in Portugal, the convent and castle are magnificent and well preserved! The Romanesque Templar Church is brilliantly decorated with an 8 sided Chevet covered with gold leaf ornamentation and 16th century paintings! The stone ruins are stunning, especially on a sunny day, with flowers, fruit trees, birds and bees. It’s my favorite place in Portugal!
