We are renting a co do in Salema for two weeks in March. Does anyone have suggestions on day trips? We will have a rental car. Thanks

Helene - Here are some day trip recommendations from Salema:

Lagos, Albufeira, Portimão, Aljezur, Sagres, Alvor, and Monchique.

I agree with RJean, although I would give Albufeira and Portimao a miss. I would add Silves - explore the castle and there are some good lunch options.

Sagres is cold and windy, so wrap up warm. The town isn’t that exciting, but it’s worth seeing the Fortaleza and the lighthouse at Cabo de Sao Vicente.

From Sagres, drive up the N268 towards Carrapateira and take a walk on the beach to see the rock formations at Praia da Bordeira. Park near the river in Aljezur and walk up to the castle - amazing views.

From Monchique, drive up to the top of Foia peak for fantastic views.

Walk up the hill in Salema to The View 1 development and take the footpath behind the last row of properties which meanders up and down and ends up at Praia da Figueira. Walk up to the village of Figueira, have a drink or lunch at O Sapinho, if it’s open at that time of year.

Book a meal 24 hours in advance at Marigil in Raposeira (the octopus stew is fantastic).

I have stayed in Salema a few times in the summer and have visited once in March - many places were closed. Supermarkets - Lidl in Vila do Bispo is better than the Intermarche in Budens. Lagos has a good market and several supermarkets.
