Hello all-we have a cruise scheduled in Nov this year. We fly into Lisbon and are there 2.5 days with day trips to Sintra and Tomar (all part of the tour pkg) before heading to Porto. We would like to explore on our own a bit either before or after the cruise. Would you recommend heading to another town (where?) as a base before our tour officially starts in Lisbon or arriving in Lisbon earlier and using it as a base (what places in addition to the ones above would you suggest)? We plan to visit Santiago de Compostela after the cruise (which ends in Porto) and likely fly out of Porto. We love finding hidden gems and exploring the culture. This will be our first trip to Portugal. We could rent a car if needed. Three of us traveling. Thank you!
